Hunting
Goat Season
Goat season is open Sept. 15-Jan. 31 and permits are available online at hunt.alaska.gov. Mountain goat hunting requires extreme dedication, tenacity and preparation so having the comfort of a hot shower, a warm bunk and delicious meals to look forward to makes it so much more enjoyable.
Black Bear
Black bear season is open from Sep. 10-June 10 and permits are available at hunt.alaska.gov. Prince William Sound is prime black bear habitat and most hunters use boats to reach shorelines and islands.
Brown/Grizzly Bear
Brown/Grizzly bear season is open Oct. 15-May 25 in the Prince William Sound area and Oct.15-Dec. 31/Apr. 1-May 25 on Montague Island and permits are awarded by drawing. The application period for drawing hunts is November and December.
Sitka Black Tail Deer
Deer season is open Aug. 1-Dec. 31 and permits are available online at hunt.alaska.gov. Sitka black tail deer are abundant in Prince William Sound and hunting late in the season offers much easier access because the snow drives deer down toward the beaches.
Duck Season
Duck season is April 2-June 14 and July 16-August 31 and permits are available online at hunt.alaska.gov. Due to its abundant coastline, Prince William Sound is a mecca for waterfowl hunters looking to harvest sea ducks. Species include Harlequin duck, Long-tailed duck, Barrow’s and Common goldeneyes, Eiders, Scoters and Mergansers.
